Resistance leaders call protests today against Gogoi’s commendation

The separatist leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik on Thursday expressed strong resentment over awarding Major Gogoi, who had used a youth Farooq Ahmad Dar as a human shield in central Kashmir’s Budgam district last month, and called for peaceful protests after Friday prayers tomorrow against this inhuman act.
In a joint statement, they said awarding of Major Gogoi vindicated their stand that India is following “fascist dogma and acting as a colonial state”.
“Life and dignity of civilians is at stake,” they said.
They urged people to stage peace protests tomorrow after Friday prayers against awarding of Major Gogoi.
The leaders said awarding erring officer for the inhuman and unjustified act, vindicates their stand that forces are involved in “war crimes” and are “patronized and encouraged by Indian leadership.”
“This tantamount to justifying the human rights violations and sending a clear message to people that they can go to any extent without any apprehension of accountability,” they said.
The leaders said J&K has been turned into a high militarized zone and India is retaliating the State through its military might.
“People in Jammu and Kashmir are following their peaceful struggle and India through its military might is trampling all ethics and inflicting atrocities on civilians,” they said.
The leaders warned that by inflicting atrocities and denying basic rights, they are pushing people to wall and compelling them to show resentment against the repressive measures.
They urged International Court of Justice (ICJ) to take suo motto action against the human shield incident and termed decision of Indian army chief to award Major Gogoi as “extremely distressing” and a “shameful act”.
They asked ICJ and Amnesty International to fulfill their responsibilities in saving precious lives in J&K.
